The Railway Museum in Saitama City is the largest museum of railways in Japan. The museum exhibits real trains, ranging from steam locomotives to Shinkansen trains, which tell the history of Japan’s railway technology. The demonstration of a real steam locomotive circling on a swivel is a spectacular sight. The museum has excellent experience facilities as well, where visitors will be able to have a variety of experiences to do with railways. The facilities include driving simulators that allow visitors to have a realistic driving experience while they sit on the driving seat and look at a scenery image projected on a screen. The museum has Japan’s largest railway model diorama, 25 x 8 meters in size, featuring realistic landscape and building replicas, where a “day in the life of a railway station” attraction can be found. Visitors can learn the principles and mechanisms of railways at a motorman experience classroom. A corner where visitors can drive a mini train on a model railway is always popular among children. The museum has a number of restaurants and shops selling railway souvenirs and train lunches. This museum is not just a fun place. Visitors can also learn about the history and development up to the present of Japan’s railway technology, typified by Shinkansen bullet trains. Visitors will learn all about Japan’s high-tech railways here. You should definitely visit the Railway Museum if you have a chance to come to Saitama.
